How are the entrepreneurs paid? And, if they aren't paid, what drives the quality and effectiveness of the apps they produce?
How about a government initiative or department devoted to developing apps for education? I would love to be hired by that department.
William C./Carolyn F. A group of people (myself included) are looking to collaborate with educators to build precisely such apps. Its a involved discussion. If you can contact me on email@example.com, that would be great.
@bsandhu I look forward to learning more. I sent you an email.
This is an interesting proposal. What is the business plan for the app companies?
since we want the apps to be free for the must part, the business plan would essentially involve some investment upfront followed by some VC. Revenue could be from a freemium model. you could potentially cut deals with institutions. The hard part is to get the right mix of people. Teachers, app developers, interface designers etc. Know any tech savvy teachers?
Yeah, me! And I can't seem to get hired for my skills. So frustrating.
The problem with being an entrepreneur is that you don't get paid a salary! Most apps start out as solo ventures. Successful apps can make good money though. If you want to start on an app in your free time or while you look for work, I can pitch in.
interesting discussion - count me in as well - we are working on similar lines for the education vertical but not restricted to apps
Some free apps are available for education. One that is aimed at giving teachers the ability to put presentations in a format for easy distribution to smart phones and tablets is called SlideSpeech: https://market.android.com/details?id=com.jgraves.android.slidespeech
