School libraries should be a hub for informational literacy of all kinds. To create a paperless learning environment, with a creativity tool and textbook tool combined, our campus has deployed 1:1 iPads for a pilot of 11th/12th graders/teachers. Invite entrepeneurs to develop a collection of free apps for education (iPad, Android, other tablets).
School districts sometimes overreact and filter out too many free web 2.0 tools that can enhance teaching and learning. Embracing more reasonable policies and having committees oversee the filtering decisions rather than an individual person creates a better process for allowing more technology into the school for free.
